The Medical
Billing and Medical Office course prepares students for an
entry-level position in a medical office, hospital or clinic and for
an administrative assistant position in a regular office.
In this program the student will get practical experience through
hands-on exercises, lectures and computer based medical office procedure
and software. They will also be computer literate enough to qualify
them to work in a regular office.
After completion from the program, the employment opportunities available
for our graduates will be in medical clinic (private or government);
hospitals, doctors' offices and other allied health care facilities.

Course
Description
Microsoft Windows Operating Systems and
PC Basics
- 30 hours
Introduction to PC basics and Microsoft's standard Window Operating
Systems for IBM and IBM-compatible computers with focus on standard
commands to set up systems, manage files and run software. Study of
computer vocabulary related to the Microsoft Windows operating system,
as well as general computer hardware, software, and networking terminology.
Microsoft Word Core Skills (Word Processing)
- 90 hours
Hands-on experience including formatting, editing, saving, and printing
letters, memos and other short documents, with an introduction to
the spelling checker and use of the thesaurus. Includes learning streamlined.
Introduces core skills in Word 2000: document creation, navigation,
editing, formatting, creating tables and table appearance, and document
creation for email and Web application. Help prepare students for
Microsoft Office User Specialist (MOUS): Microsoft Word 2000 Core
Exam.
Microsoft Outlook & Internet
- 30 hours
Introduction to Microsoft Outlook & Internet. Covers basic features
of Outlook 2000, including email creation, calendar options, contact
management, task management, and scheduling. Gives an overview of
the World Wide Web, e-mail, news groups, bulletin boards, World Wide
Web browsers, basic web page elements and exploration of virtual communities.
Computerized Medical Office- MediSoft
-60 hours
Provides a very detailed training on MediSoft the premier medical
office program on the market. The module covers initial software and
practice set-up, daily activity, transaction entry, claim management,
and reporting capabilities.
Medical Terminology
- 60 hours
This course teaches the basic rules in medical terminology, dividing
medical terms into their components parts, their meaning and correct
spelling, how to build and analyze it by relating the terms to the
structure and function of the human body. There is accompanying software
that will enhance and reinforce the learning process.
Medical Law and Ethics
- 60 hours
This course teaches the legal and moral aspects of the practice of
medicine, nursing, and other allied heath professions. Students learn
what legal implications are involved in patient care, records and
confidentiality.
Insurance Billing & Coding
- 60 hours
This course introduces CPT and ICD coding as they apply to medical
insurance and billing. Emphasis is placed on accuracy in coding, forms
preparation, and posting. Upon completion, students should be able
to describe the steps of the total billing cycle and explain the importance
of accuracy.
Keyboarding Basics I & II
- 60 hours
Beginning keyboarding course covering the operation of the keyboard
using the touch system and the development of correct techniques to
interact more efficiently with desktop computers, computer terminals
or electronic communication systems.
Job Placement
- 30 hours
Course with emphasis on mock interviews, resume development, and Internet
job search. Students are encouraged and assisted with their resume
writing, after which these resume are posted on the Internet and also
forward to potential employers.
